John, 5:1-15; 6:1-15; 6:16-25; 20:30
The Bible passages selected here are just by way of a few examples. Many others can be looked at, and as John asserts, “Jesus did many other miraculous signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book”. But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name” (John 20:30).
Apologists challenge us with things like this: “One reason people don’t believe the Bible’s accounts of Jesus is because of the miracles in them – he walks on water, he raises the dead, and so on. But we know from science that things like that don’t happen. Or do we?”.
So, what do we believe about Jesus and the miraculous? Is our focus on miracles an obstacle to belief, or a bridge that needs to be crossed to discover life “in Christ”?
