1 Corinthians 12.
The Apostle Paul is keen to make sure that the people of God don’t remain uninformed about the gifts of the Holy Spirit through which we are equipped. He sets that out in three distinct, yet intertwined, ways as he shows us:
- The purpose of the gifts (vs. 1-3): to bring glory to God’s name; so that the church might be built up.
- The diversity of the gifts (vs. 4-11): Church is a model of Christian community, working together through a diversity of gifts, a diversity of service, and a diversity of works – but always with the same Spirit.
- The unity of the gifts (vs. 12-31): We are all one in Christ; Church = the Body of Christ: Every part belongs together.
