Ruth 4.
There is a moment in this chapter when it feels like the promise of hope is going to fail. Ruth’s rightful kinsman-redeemer will not meet his obligations, showing more concern for his own interests than in doing the right thing. Boaz stepped in and in doing so demonstrated the fullness of God’s ways of loving kindness – he was not obliged to do so legally, but integrity, purity and love far outweighed any expectations. It’s no mistake that the book of Ruth ends with the genealogy of David, the line of Jesus, our kinsman-redeemer. Our response will be seen as we reflect the will of God through the ‘obedience that comes from faith’ (Rom. 1:5)”.
