John 10: 11-13.
Most of the time when we see sheep in a field they are head down, munching grass, seemingly oblivious to what’s going on around them. But if you try to get close to them, they’ll soon show you that they knew you were coming by running away. If they had heard the voice of their trusted shepherd coming towards them, the sheep would have been more likely to carry on with what they were doing, and so kept enjoying the fullness of the place that they had been led to.
Are our reactions to life’s circumstances more like the scared sheep who is always ready to run away? Or are we secure enough in our “good shepherd” to be able to know that we are still safe and secure?
