John 19:30, Matthew 27: 51, 51, 62-66, Luke 24: 1-8, ! Corinthians 15: 3-10.
Matthew 27.62-66 tells us the religious leaders were worried about Jesus’ disciples spreading rumours of resurrection. (Hence the seal and guard on the tomb.) However, there’s little evidence Peter & Co. were expecting this or in any mood to make up such a fantastic tale! Jesus was safely buried and “the women” prepare the usual spices and perfumes. Only after seeing angels do they remember Jesus’ words! (24.8) Have we ‘buried’ Jesus by our limited expectations and religious duties? Are we open to Christ’s resurrection today?
