The Psalms make good companions on the journey of faith. This is especially true of the Psalms of Ascent (120-134); songs ‘for the way up’ to Jerusalem. These were songs for pilgrims who made the journey upwards – literally and spiritually.

There are times when we’re full of excitement about life and God! There are also times when God seems silent and distant. This is the reality but we’re often uncomfortable about admitting it, aren’t we?

If you're sometimes tempted to doubt your salvation or think there's something wrong with you because you're not on a spiritual high, don't worry! You're a pilgrim, climbing a mountain and if you never slipped or felt the strain you wouldn't be normal.
